Electrical Upgrades You Won't Regret!

I don't know about you, but cords drive me crazy!! So I knew when we were in the framing stage of building this house I wanted to hide ALL the cords I could. My husband and I spent MANY, many hours planning where we wanted all our electrical switches and outlets to go beyond what was required by code. (Note: be sure to ask your electrician about your code requirements in your county or area before you begin.)

As the house is nearing completion and electrical is almost done I am so happy with the upgrades we are having done!

For the kitchen I did a countertop backsplash and knew I couldn't ruin that beautiful veining with an outlet. We had all the electric run underneath the cabinets for a seamless finish. We also did the island outlets right under the countertop so they are not in the middle of the cabinets.

In the bathrooms and pantry room, we added a few outlets in the drawers and cabinets to hide away some appliances or accessories we use. I can now keep my cordless vacuum hidden away in a tall cabinet on its charger.

And my electric toothbrush base and cords will no longer be an eye sore and hidden away nice and neat in the bathroom tower cabinet.

For my vanity area, and any built in dressers, we added an outlet on top so you don't have to put any cords behind, to the side, or underneath. And no bending over is another plus!! We can just unplug and hide it in the top drawer when we want it out of sight.

Finally, in the main rooms of the house (living room, breakfast room, kitchen, home gym) we did outlets in the baseboards so we don't have cords running up a wall with any floor lamps or cardio equipment. And for extra measure we even added a couple floor outlets for Christmas tree cords! We even put an outlet on the top side of a fireplace so we won't have any cords hanging down. Like I said, we spent MANY hours planning out the electrical work in this house......

It is very important to plan ahead when building a home and walk through the house during framing like you are living there, pretend to turn lights on and off, where will your holiday decor go, where will you charge phones, ask yourself what electric devices you use daily that you want easy access to, we spent hours planning all this out. Talk to your electrician about all your needs and concerns and lay out every room for the electrical plan. It will be worth it once the house is done!
